Letter to the Editor:
The article entitled, “Young Adults Make Gains in Health Insurance Coverage,” (New York Times September 21,2011) by Kevin Sack, observed positive outcomes for the recent adjustment in maximum age for a child to be covered under his/her parent health insurance. This policy implementation incentivized young adults to become insured and they did just that. The outcome of this policy shines light on the large magnitude policies have on people’s behavior. And if increasing health care coverage is the motive of Washington at the moment, then the Affordable Care Act, which plans to expand Medicaid coverage and subsidize health insurance costs for low income individuals will work similarly. Adjusting the age limit increased young adults coverage rates so greatly, therefor it is expected that lower costs and government program expansion will likely do wonders for Besides, policy implementation is much better than Washington staying stagnant on the health care coverage issues while health care cost continuously increase.
